He Did IT!

Nobody was surprised more than Kris Allen when Ryan Seacrest announced the results after nearly 100,000,000 votes had been counted. Even Simon and Paula realized just before the show that Kris could get the needed votes. Adam was a very good sport about the whole thing. He had nothing but praise for Kris and his talent. Adam does not want to fit into this world like Kris does. I think what is appealing about Kris is that he is one of us. He has great musical talent and charm, but if you put him in a crowd, he doesn't stand out. Adam, on the other hand, will always be noticed. He is very talented, but like many a genius, he doesn't fit in with most of us. He will always attract attention because he is different.
I loved the performances by Carlos Santana and Queen. Kiss always has been a bit too far out there for me. They fit more into the category of Adam Lambert with their showmanship.
There were some other interesting moments in the show. I'm wondering what was bleeped out during Fergie's performance. On second thought, I don't want to go there. Steve Martin can even make us laugh when he's trying to be serious. He plays the banjo! I'm not sure what Kara was trying to do with bikini girl, but she did it well. I loved Ryan's line about what's new with bikini girl. Who knows, maybe bikini girl got what she really wanted all along. In the end, there are lots of winners from this season, but with the voters, there is only one American Idol.

Kris or Adam? We'll Find Out Tonight!

I can live with the results--whatever they are. If I were choosing based on songs I liked best last night, Kris would be the winner. Adam has more star power, but Kris's performances were more enjoyable--for me, Dawg, just keepin' it real. Ya' know what I'm sayin'?
Don't really like the song that Kara helped right--too lyric intensive. There was no hook--if I'm being honest with you. Simon said he wasn't going to judge the song, but with that comment, we know how he feels about it.

Could Kris Allen Actually Beat Adam Lambert?

For weeks and weeks Adam has been the designated Idol for season 8. Simon has picked him as the winner. His performances have been nearly flawless. Kara called him a rock god. However, Kris has peaked at just the right time. He is charming, talented, and reminds us of the kid next door. There is an element that does not like Adam. There are those that can't get past the make up, the jewelry, the painted fingernails, the edgey look, the hard side. Many of those people may vote for Kris now that Danny is gone. Kris has his own legion of loyal fans, and if enough of Danny's fans now switch over to Kris, he could swing the vote. My money (if I had any) would still be on Adam, but for the first time, I can actually see Kris as the new American Idol.Wednesday, May 6, 2009
America Rocked the Vote!

Wow, I should have more faith in the voters! Despite rock being her thing, despite the duet with Adam, America got it right and left the 3 best contestants in the game. I don't think anybody needs to feel sorry for Allison. She's only 17 years old. She's virtually guaranteed a great record deal, and she's got millions of fans already.
I'm looking forward to home week. With the judges picking one song for each contestant, they can't say "You chose the wrong song". Of course they can always make a poor choice on the other song--the one they pick, but I think Adam, Danny, and Kris will put on a great show.
Was anybody else surprised that Paula Abdul didn't fall on her tush like Madonna always does lately?
One more thought on Slash... Is he the only floppy hair rocker that hasn't been married to Pamela Anderson?
Adam Might Have Saved Allison

Simon correctly summed up the show by saying that Adam might have saved Allison. We knew going in that Adam and Allison would have the edge on Rock week. The timing of the genre and the duet with Adam probably means Kris is going home. I like Kris tons more than Allison, but based on the performances last night, I think he will be at the bottom.
Adam is so smart. He is always prepared in every way for every performance. Like him or not, he's the star. It's easy to love Danny, and I think he has a broader appeal with his vocal talents. Kris is the charmer, and I think, had a solid performance. I really loved the harmonies when Kris and Danny sang their duet. The duet with Adam and Allison was more like a shouting match. The judges seem to think that Adam and Allison should record together. I just have two words to say: Wrong! My opinion of Slash? Who knew he could talk in complete sentences?

The Final Four

It was surprising to see Adam in the bottom two. I'm thinking people thought he was safe and voted for others they didn't want to see go. Kris has found new life. His performances have been outstanding the past few weeks. I love the soulful voice of Danny, but I've never been a big Allison fan. I think she is amazing, but she's just not my style. I predict she will be the next to go. I hope we get to hear the final four sing 2 songs each next week. The Rock and Roll theme should help Adam and Allison especially, although Danny and Kris have really surprised me the last few weeks. I can't wait until Tuesday!

The Right Choice

As I mentioned last week, Matt had to be saved, because Lil and Anoop needed to go first. Lil has great talent, but never really found her niche. Anoop is also talented, but I think he got a little cocky, and no longer won over our hearts every week.

Disco Down and Check Out the Show
The gap is widening. Adam, Danny, and Allison are on one side. Kris, Matt, Lil, Anoop are all on the other side. Week after week, Adam proves he is the one to beat. Danny never misses a note, but his overall persona on stage doesn't quite measure up. Allison can sing, but she's not very fun to watch. Kris is probably my 4th choice. I think he has had some brilliant moments, but just doesn't stand out when compared to the first three mentioned.

Matt Needed To Be Saved
The judges did the right thing on American Idol when they exercised there veto power and kept Matt. Not that he's that good, he's just better than Anoop and Lil. 2 people will be going home this week, and I would rather see Anoop and Lil go home first. Here's my prediction for the final outcome. It will get down to Danny and Adam, and Adam will win.

American Idol--Is it about the judges or the contestants?
With 4 judges this season, more time is spent talking about the performances. This eats up valuable program time. My DVR recorded the 4/7 episode, but the only performance worth seeing didn't even make it on the recording. 61 minutes were recorded, and I didn't get to see Adam Lambert's performance.
Let's go back to 3 judges. So much of what the judges say is repetitive and is getting old. As one fan shouted out a few weeks a go while Kara was rambling, "Broken record!!!!" I'm always interested to hear what Simon has to say. I think I could live without any of the other 3.
To be honest, I wasn't really blown away by any of the performances. I think Adam, Danny, and Kris are in a different league than the others. I don't see anybody else in the top 3 at this point.

Worst Performance Ever on American Idol!
No, it wasn't Megan, who got voted off the island. It wasn't from on again, off again, Anoop Dawg, It wasn't even from anyone in the top 36. Without question the honor of worst performance ever on American Idol goes to Lady Gaga. She made me gag-gag. I will say that I enjoyed the talent of the guy who played the violin, but that was it. If you can summarize all of the negative comments made by the judges over 8 seasons of American Idol, you could not do justice to the horror of this performance. Indulgent, wanna be, wardrobe dissaster, a total mess. I hated her song, her voice, her outfit, her makeup, her choreography. Did I miss anything else? Oh yeah, the fog. That performance should never have been presented on American Idol. What were the producers thinking?

American Idol and Politics
It was very believable when Simon Cowell said on Leno that Obama had called and wanted to have dinner with him, but he didn't have time. "Our diaries didn't quite match", he said. In fact, it was reported as news until Thursday's show. My guess is that someone from the White House called Fox to demand that they clarify on the show that Simon was just kidding. Not even Simon Cowell can get away with snubbing Obama.
Then there was that marvelous performance by Stevie Wonder. I didn't catch it the first time through, but when I watched it again, Stevie sang praises to Obama. Just before he brought out that famous harmonica, he shouted "I love you Barack Obama". Then a few seconds later, he said "It's all about positivity". Ok, I agree, we should all be more positive. I'm just wondering why this spirit of love and cooperation wasn't around when W. was president. The rules change when their guy is in office.
I really wish entertainers would keep their political views to themselves. I used to love Barbera Streisand's music. I still love the music, but now, every time I hear her sing, all of this liberal goblety gook comes along in the refrain. It's like I mentioned before about Michael Jackson. Whenever I hear his music, I have to set aside all I know about him in order to enjoy the music.
Anyway, I do believe these people have received their talent from God. Blessing people with wonderful talents provides enjoyment for all of God's children.

Everything's Good in the World Tonight When Smokey Sings.....
Smokey Robinson sings with Joss Stone. Stevie Wonder performs a medley of his songs. What an awesome American Idol. I loved the Motown Medley by the 10 contestants too. It's already on my iPod.
I got 2 out of the bottom 3 right, and I'm not really surprised or disappointed in the outcome for the night.
It will be hard to top Motown Week!
